When Max and Ian were young, one of our favorite movies was Cane Toads: An Unnatural History. If you have not seen it yet, open up a new tab and put it in your Netflix queue. It's a documentary with a sense of humor and some great music. I think the Cane Toad Blues was done by They Might Be Giants. You can read about the movie here if you are interested: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0130529/
Cane Toads were important from Hawaii with the intent of saving the sugar cane crop from being devoured by cane beetle grubs. Unfortunately it did not work out (the toads are nocturnal and the grubs are diurnal) and with no natural predators and a high sex drive, the cane toads populations skyrocketed.
I expected to see them all over Queensland, but I only saw one in Cape Tribulation rain forest where they are not common. (Maybe it is not a cane toad, but I do not have time at the moment to investigate further.)
Ellen and I did have lunch at a place in Port Douglas where they had cane toad races at night.
I did see cane toad wallets for sale in a few places, usually along side kangaroo balls bottle openers or some other atrocity.
Did you put Cane Toads in your queue? I think you should.

Cane Toads is in our que! Your stories are delightful, Susan! I think the Weeping Toado is darling too! Why does Ellen have to kill the sharks she is studying? You are having the most amazing summer! I'm so thrilled for you! xo
